Huisman and Buus fastest in GT4 European Series qualifying at Zandvoort

26 September 2020

Duncan Huisman and Bastian Buus were the fastest drivers in the two qualifying sessions for the fourth GT4 European Series round at Zandvoort.

In Q1 nobody could stop Huisman and the #99 V8 Racing Chevrolet, while Buus in the #22 Allied Racing Porsche secured the overall pole position in a truncated second qualifying session session on the 4.2 km Dutch track.

The V8 Racing Chevrolet Camaro GT4.Rs dominated Q1 and swept the front row for today’s opening race. Huisman booked his first pole of the season with a time of 1m43.107s, beating teammate Jop Rappange by 0.293s. Theo Nouet (#27 AGS Events Aston Martin) missed out on the front row for race 1 by just 0.007s.

Jan Kasperlik (#22 Allied Racing Porsche) was fourth fastest overall in Q1, taking pole position in Pro-Am. Stéphane Lémeret (#8 CMR Toyota) will line up fifth on the grid, ahead of the #718 Centri Porsche Ticino Porsche of Ivan Jacoma.

Willem Meijer qualified the #30 SRT Mercedes-AMG in seventh, with Xavier Lloveras completing the overall top eight in the #15 NM Racing Team Mercedes-AMG. Bob Herber took the Am pole by qualifying 12th overall, ahead of Silver Cup points lead Bas Schouten.

Bastian Buus set the pace and claimed pole position for the second race, following a qualifying session that saw red flag stoppages and a lengthy full course yellow.

The first stoppage came after only a handful of drivers had completed a timed lap. Five minutes after the session had been restarted, two other cars beached in the gravel resulted in a full course yellow and subsequent second red flag. The session was not restarted after the second stoppage.

When the red flags came out, the #22 Allied Racing Porsche topped the timing screens with a best time of 1m42.958s, over a second quicker than the #8 CMR Toyota of Gael Castelli. Timothé Buret took third in the #66 CMR Toyota, completing a CMR 1-2 in Silver Cup.

Fourth fastest when the session was stopped was Bob Herber in the #30 SRT Mercedes-AMG, one of the cars in the gravel, followed by the #21 Allied Racing Porsche of Nicolaj Møller-Madsen and the #718 Centri Porsche Ticino Porsche of Ivan Jacoma.

Silver and Pro-Am championship leaders Gabriele Piana and Nicolas Gomar did not complete a single lap in Q2. Other title contenders also missed out, with Valentin Hasse-Clot only 14th fastest and Lluc Ibanez in 12th overall.
