31 May 2019
MDM Motorsport's Alec Udell led the way in the first free practice session for the third round of the GT4 European Series at Circuit Paul Ricard.
The American driver was able to beat fellow BMW driver Marius Zug on the 5.822m long circuit in Le Castellet. Udell set the fastest time of 2:13.531 just before the halfway point of the session.
Zug’s time of 2:13.698 was enough to set the fastest time in the Pro-Am category and almost a tenth quicker than Silver Cup points leader Benjamin Lessennes in the Equipe Verschuur McLaren.
Ricardo van der Ende completed the Silver Cup top three with the Ekris M4 GT4, finishing the session in fourth place overall, almost half a second behind Udell. Pierre Alexandre Jean was fifth fastest overall.
Series newcomer Max Busnelli put the Centre Porsche Ticino Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 CS MR in second place in the Pro-Am class, ahead of Generation AMR SuperRacing’s Matthew George in his team’s new Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4.
David Loger set the pace in the Am category. A lap of 2:15.866 put his Alpine A110 GT4 in 27th overall. Clement Seyler was second fastest in the class, followed by Lukasz Kreski in the eSky WP Racing Team Maserati.
Free Practice 2 will take place later this afternoon. Full results from Free Practice 1 can be found here.
