CMR Alpine fastest in Free Practice 2 at Spa
20 July 2018
Pierre-Alexandre Jean was the fastest driver in Free Practice 2 of the GT4 European Series at Spa-Francorchamps. The 17-year-old French driver set the pace in the #35 CMR Alpine A110 GT4 and lapped the 7.004 kilometre long Belgian Grand Prix circuit in the Ardennes in 2:34.309. Jean’s teammate Stéphane Tribaudini’s fastest lap time of 2:34.508 was also faster than all the other drivers out on the track in Free Practice 2.
After taking first place in Free Practice 1, Bullitt Racing’s Andy Meyrick came 0.279s short to set the fastest time in Free Practice 2. The British driver still managed to take his #33 Mercedes-AMG GT4 to the top position in the Pro-Am class, ahead of the #112 RN Vision STS BMW M4 GT4 of Misano race 2 class winners Miguel Cristovao and Pavel Lefterov.
Lechner Racing’s Florian Janits set the fourth fastest time overall in the #47 Mercedes-AMG GT4 and the Austrian driver was followed by the fastest Am entry, the #27 CMR Alpine A110 GT4 of David Loger. The #43 Allied-Racing Porsche finished the session sixth place overall.
Silver Cup points leaders Will Tregurtha and Stuart Middleton were eighth fastest, with rivals Milan Dontje and Nicolaj Møller-Madsen setting the 24th time of the session.
Race control adopted a ’zero tolerance' approach to cars leaving the track in Free Practice 2 and with too many drivers abusing the track limits at the top of the Raidillon, the decision was taken to red flag the session. Despite the warnings, track limit abuse continued and the majority of teams were given drive-through and stop-and-go penalties.
Next up is Qualifying for races 7 and 8 of the 2018 season. Qualifying 1 is set to get underway at 15:40 local time tomorrow, followed by Qualifying 2 at 16:10.
