Race 1 Update: CMR Toyota inherits Silver Cup race win after post-race Allied Racing Porsche penalty

10 October 2021

The #22 Allied Racing Porsche has lost its Silver Cup race 1 win after being penalized for a grid infringement.

The German team was given a stop-and-go penalty, converted to a 35-second time penalty post-race, after it was found that the left rear tyre pressure was below the minimum starting pressure when checked on the grid and this was not remedied before the car took the race start. The Stewards ruled this to be a break of article 29.12 of the GT4 European Series Sporting Regulations.

The Stewards reads: "Car 22 was found to have a rear left tyre pressure of 1.34 bar on the grid after the 3 minute signal, this being below the minimum starting pressure of 1.40 bar. Having heard from the competitor’s representative, the team stated that they were informed and attempted to remedy this but had problems with their air bottle. Having been unable to rectify the pressure on the grid, they were not aware of the requirement for the car to return to its working area during the formation lap to remedy the situation It is accepted that this is a breach of the above regulation and the Stewards therefore impose a stop-and-go penalty which, being post race, is converted to a time penalty."

Stéphane Lémeret and Antoine Potty in the #8 CMR Toyota inherit the Silver Cup race win and seven extra points for the championship, though with United Autosports drivers Charlie Fagg and Bailey Voisin taking additional points the change does not affect the championship standings.

The penalty dropped Bastian Buus and Joel Sturm out of the top 10 in the Silver Cup, with the #12 Borusan Otomotiv Motorsport BMW of Cem Bolukbasi and Berkay Besler taking second place and Jop Rappange and Thijmen Nabuurs in the V8 Racing Chevrolet moving up into third place.
